I enjoyed the story. The author is funny and I appreciated the humor. It was a slow start but the characters were interesting. It was easy to hate the folks that deserved to be hated and to root for the people who needed help. At times the story was a bit predictable but that made it easy to stay engaged in it. I appreciated that both the male and female lead characters had pasts that they needed to work through.

Another really addictive book by Beth Jackson. I can't make myself leave it. I read one chapter and I say: ok, just this one and then I go and do other things. But then I just want to read one more. It is frustrating sometimes with all the bad treatment against poor little Mari but hopefully things will get better fpr her by the end of the novel. I read another book by the same author: Beauty and the Beta and I am in love with that book. It made me search other books written by her.

Was amazing to see Mari and Carter finally accept each other. They both deserved happiness mari after a lifetime of abuse from her father, Carter after the lord's of his farted mate. I do feel we could have been given more backstory from caters perspective and maybe even something about the new addition they are now expecting, perhaps even something on leo and matty.... Well they find their mates, how will they handle becoming alpha and beta? What about the investigation on alpha Aaron where will that go

UPDATE: I’m really happy I read this book. It was much better than I thought it would be. The author did a good job of wrapping up most loose ends up. I really enjoyed how mental abuse was explored, rather than horrific physical abuse/torture. Of course, it was an unrealistic healing timeframe. I typically hate the Beauty and the Beast tropes, but this one was nice. Great job, author! ORIGINAL: This book was recommended after finishing a different book. I have mixed feelings about it. It needs a little editing, but it’s not overwhelming or challenging. There is some repetition with explaining certain things or emotions repeatedly. Personally, I would rather see it go more in depth if they’re going to repeat something. But, it’s been a quick read so far. I typically stay away from toxic/abusive books,so my review may not be untainted. So far, it’s not gruesome, just lots of emotional trauma and manipulation. I think her name is pronounced “mahr-e” (like “starry”)… I looked it up when they referred to her name being unusual. The storyline is interesting and a unique perspective. So far, there has been one chapter from her abusive father‘s perspective, and I wish they would have included the information in a different manner because I’m not sure the author captured his vitriol and darkness effectively. However, the author has done a good job of weaving minor mysteries throughout and allowing the reader to see most of the puzzle pieces as the characters start putting the puzzle together. SPOILER: I was not expecting Mari’s fated mate, and hope there’s more and different surprises to come. So far, so good… :)

Read this story. You will not be disappointed I wish Alpha Carter would have gone back to her house to be able to hear what's going on. I also wish that her brother could do more to help her. How can anyone blame a baby if their mother dies in child birth? If anything her father should honor the last wish from his mate to love their children. It's so sad that Mari lost her mate Rafe before they could even get any time to spend with each other

Third Beth Jackson novel I've read. And they have all been brilliant. This one did not disappoint either. Great characters that you find yourself rooting for. The story moves along at a good pace. Some of the twists you can see coming while some come out of nowhere but all add brilliantly to the story. The interaction between the characters is good and believeable. Some of the quips between the characters are laugh out loud funny.
